GREY WATER RECYCLING SYSTEM FOR LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION

What is the WaterWizer?

The WaterWizer is an automatic monitor for saving and re-using washing machine water for irrigation purposes. During times of drought, the WaterWizerTM may be the difference between a garden that survives, and a garden that doesn’t. When water restrictions are imposed, you will still be able to water your grass, and garden with water that is free of soap and bleach (efficiency can be maximized by using a low suds, biodegradable detergent, however) . In both drought and non-drought conditions, the WaterWizerTM will save you money on your monthly water bill.

Installation only takes a few minutes with the use of a flat blade screwdriver. It’s so easy anyone can do it! Scroll down the page to watch our installation video.

How the WaterWizer Works

Drain water from the washing machine goes to the WaterWizer where the quality of the water is analyzed by an electronic sensor system. If chemical concentrations exceed the user set limit, the water is dumped down the drain. When the wash water quality is acceptable, the resulting greywater is directed by solenoid valves to the surge tank. During installation, an air

gap is created going into the tank so that the washer does not siphon to the tank, or vice versa.

Standard upright washers typically use 30-60 gallons of water for every full load, so a 55 gallon drum (at a minimum) must be obtained to use as a surge tank, and you will also need a float switch. WaterWizerTM will soon offer these accessories for sale from this website, but in the interim, 55 gallon drums are easy to find, and are inexpensive.

Note: The washing machine pump is not designed for pressure, so do not expect to run your irrigation system from the washer pump. You can run water via a gravity system from the surge tank, or you can put a pump on the tank outlet.

Efficiency of the WaterWizerTM can be maximized by using a low suds biodegradable detergent.

We advise that you check with your city to see if they require a permit to install a greywater system. Due to the current drought situation in California, a proposal is going before the California Building Standards Commission at the end of July that would allow the installation of greywater systems producing less than 250 gallons per day without a permit.

Using greywater from the shower, bath and laundry is generally great quality water for your garden. The soap levels at typical dilutions are a wetting agent, causing the water to soak into the soil better. When laundry greywater is diverted to the garden, though, environmentally friendly laundry products with low levels of phosphate and salt should be chosen.
